Make it clean, without the suds.

For almost a year, I stepped away from detergents. This was my experience…

I stumbled upon a new product that hit the market circa 2017. It was a product unlike anything I had ever seen. A shampoo that could cleanse your hair, without any of the unwanted side effects of traditional shampoos. For years prior, I had always disliked my hair the first day I washed it. My hair was always too puffy, my scalp too dry, and the overall appearance of my hair was just “meh”. But on day two and three, my hair was always perfect. It had that “lived in” look without being too oily. It was soft and touchable, and my scalp was more comfortable.

Enter New Wash.

This product is made by a company called Hairstory. I had been following them since their inception. The owner of the company used to be the head of another very large and well known company that I had worked as an educator for. So his projects were on my radar. I trusted him. When Hairstory released New Wash, I was already interested. Intrigued. New Wash promised to cleanse your hair of unwanted dirt and oils, while leaving a light amount of your natural oils behind. It’s really quite interesting the way it works. The company explained to me that there is no lather. No bubbles. No typical shampoo feeling at all. Rather, it feels like you’re cleansing your hair with lotion. But they urged me to trust the process. They claimed that it will cleanse my hair, while leaving it soft and natural feeling. So, I dove in and tried it.

The result? Day 2 hair on day 1. My scalp rejoiced!

After the first time I used New Wash, I was forever converted. I sang it from the rooftops so all my peers could hear. I told every hairstylist I know about this magical new product that would instantly change their clients’ hair and scalp. I continued using nothing but New Wash to cleanse my hair for almost a year. I was happy that I could wash my hair whenever I wanted to, without ever feeling that “overly clean” feeling on my scalp again. I could wash my hair with New Wash every single day with no drawbacks.

But eventually I strayed. Call it shiny ball syndrome. Call it boredom. I just missed trying new hair products. I mean, my industry is flush with new options all the time. My sales reps were all giving me things to try, and they would sit collecting dust. Finally, I did it. I washed my hair with shampoo. And let me tell you…the bubbles were glorious! Oh, how I had missed the bubbly lathery feeling of a head full of shampoo. But once my hair dried, I immediately remembered why I’d been interested in New Wash in the first place. So you know what I did? I put New Wash in my repertoire, along with some traditional shampoos and conditioners. I still use New Wash every other time I wash my hair.

And I wasn’t alone in this. Most stylists and clients I’d recommended New Wash to had come to the same conclusion. New Wash is fantastic, but so are bubbles. So we all use it in a way that’s called a “co-wash”. This means, it’s in your tag team of things to wash your hair. Every once in a while, it’s nice to give your scalp and hair a break, and using a “co-wash” is the perfect way to do so. Since the introduction of New Wash, loads of companies have released their own versions of co-washes. If you’re curious at all about trying a co-wash, I highly recommend trying New Wash by Hairstory. They have fantastic customer service too! Thanks for hangin’.
